There was good news this week. The new Waste-to-Energy Power Plant (PSEL) has begun construction, breaking ground on Wednesday in Pedungan – right next to the Suwung tip. At the ceremony, the Minister of Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) as well as CEO of the Danantara Investment Management Agency, Rosan Roeslani, stated that the technology being used has been implemented in more than 50 countries and is capable of processing various types of waste from both Denpasar and Badung. He told reporters, “I have inspected several similar waste processing facilities in China, Japan, and other countries and observed that the facilities operate without causing odor or disturbance to the surrounding communities.”
It has been said that the project, worth Rp3 trillion, is expected to create 1,200 green jobs and reduce the need for landfill sites by around 80 percent. The plant will also be able to generate clean energy, sufficient to meet the needs of around 100,000 households. The waste processing capacity exceeds 500,000 tons per year, which is over 40 percent of Bali’s total waste accumulation.
The facility is not expected to be operating before October 2027 so we still have another wet season at least to face in the interim and the three Rs; Reduce, Reuse and Recycle should be adhered to now more than ever. The trash has been a growing issue on this island for over 15 years, but we expect this step will be the beginning of a clean Bali in the future.
Photos Above. Friday night last week started at the Maternity wing of Sanglah Hospital. Congrats to Paloma and Jian. Young Kenzo was impatient to arrive but made it. Later in Gimme Shelter with Made J and later with the lads at Red Ruby Terrace and more World Cup. Then visiting ol’ Ricardo and Brad down at the Four Points Uluwatu.
I dropped into Gimme Shelter bar in Perenenan last Friday night before going to watch the football again later at Red Ruby Terrace. Balian was playing in the corner and Made J was propping up the bar. I hadn’t seen him for years and over a few Jamesons we had great catch up. I recall him arriving to these shores back in the 2000s as a young bloke with his slide blues guitar from Belgium. That night I also became a grandfather for the first time. We had an announcement from the band and a drink to the future of young Kenzo. May he blessed.
Have a good weekend friends.
